DatQvault (Rank: #2)

datqvault image

OVERALL RATING: ★★★★

Exam-Identical Software: DatQvault practice exams and simulations are presented in the same computerized format you will see on your test day including the proper time limits, break policies, and rules for moving through the exam content. The practice tests are challenging and are of very similar difficulty level to the actual DAT. They are some of the best practice tests out there on the market.

Study Aids: DatQvault offers excellent study aids for the Biology section of the DAT which will be very beneficial in understanding the material and scoring higher on the actual DAT. They also have some other useful study aids that will be beneficial to you.

Score Breakdown: Following each practice test you will receive a breakdown of your scores in every topic on the DAT and an estimated exam score. These detailed analytics will help you to identify which subjects are your strengths and weaknesses and will also show you where you stand against your peers that have taken the test.

No Audio or Video Lectures: DatQvault doesn’t have some of the bells and whistles that the other review courses have like audio and video lectures or physical textbooks. The practice tests and study aids won’t be comprehensive enough to serve as the primary study material so additional review materials are necessary.

Chad’s Videos (Rank: #4)

OVERALL RATING: ★★★★

Simplicity: Chad is one of the few individuals in this world that possesses the gift of teaching any concept in a clear and concise manner making learning and understanding easy. Prepare to understand concepts that you never did before with Chad’s effective teaching style.

Video Library: The video library is extensive and is made up of short, concise and engaging instructional videos by Chad himself. The videos will keep your attention and you will learn more from them than any other video or review material for the DAT.

Affordable: You have the freedom to choose what topics or subtopics you want to purchase and for how long. This allows you to take charge of your learning and only pay for what you feel is necessary. Subscriptions are affordable on any budget.

Not Fully Comprehensive: Chad’s strength is in both the General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry sections of the DAT. The Quantitative Reasoning section is another well-made section that you should consider using, but their review materials for Biology are not complete as of now and there are no review materials for the PAT or Reading Comprehension.

 Gold Standard DAT (Rank: #5)

Comprehensive Multimedia Resource: They offer a detailed and thorough review course suited for any type of learner. Their book set is filled with detailed content for every section of the DAT. They also have a video library and MP3 files that covers everything you need to know.

Organic Chemistry: The Organic Chemistry section in The Gold Standard book is slightly weak and does not include any practice questions. They make up for the lack of material and practice questions in the book by providing online practice questions and additional material.

Price: Their review courses are well made, but because of that they are expensive and therefore, are not affordable to every pre-dental student. They are not as expensive as some of the other comprehensive review courses which is a plus however.

jco horiz

OVERALL RATING: ★★★★★

Learning Styles: The J Co teaching method is focused on engaging students on three levels of learning: visual, oral, and literary. They have incorporated all three types of learning into their review course to maximize the learning and retention of their students.

Not Comprehensive: Their thorough narrated animations will help any student learn and understand the material, but they only have material for the Survey of Natural Sciences and the Perceptual Ability Test.

Practice Questions: Several of the subtopics in the PAT section have practice questions, but besides that you won’t find any more. J Co has a great review course, but is in need of supplemental materials so that you can get the practice that you need.

BenchPrep DAT: (Rank: #10)

OVERALL RATING: ★★★★★

A Mix of Study Materials: BenchPrep gives you a whole slew of study materials to use. You can read through numerous DAT lessons, study from over 800 flashcards by topic, play DAT games, and take a practice test. You even have the ability to create your own sets of flashcards and keep track of how well you have answered them.

Stand Alone: BenchPrep is a comprehensive review course that covers all the topics tested on by the DAT, but it lacks the depth that other comprehensive review courses have. You’ll get a good foundation, but will need some more review material to take your preparation to the next level.

Practice Questions: Lots of flashcards are a bonus, but only one full-length practice test won’t get you to the level that you want to be at for the DAT. You’ll need more practice questions and tests to score well and be prepared for test day.

CliffsNotes AP Biology (Rank: #11)

cliffs

OVERALL RATING: ★★★★★

A review guide for Biology that reads more like an Encyclopedia than a review guide. It contains everything you need to know to prepare for the Biology section of the DAT. Use it by itself to study Biology or in conjunction with Barron’s AP Biology review guide to get the best of both review guides.

Barron’s AP Biology (Rank: #12)

Barron's

OVERALL RATING: ★★★★★

A review guide for Biology that is easier to read and filled with more illustrations than CliffsNotes AP Biology review guide. It contains everything you need to know to prepare for the Biology section of the DAT. Use it by itself to study Biology or in conjunction with CliffsNotes AP Biology review guide to get the best of both review guides.

Campbell Biology (Rank: #13)

campbell

OVERALL RATING: ★★★★★

The source from which all Biology questions on the DAT are derived. Campbell Biology is the textbook that contains everything you need to know about Biology for the DAT. It’s way too long to study from cover to cover and will do you no good if used like that, but it will help to provide insight into Biology topics that you need clarification on or additional information. Use it with a review guide like CliffsNotes or Barron’s to shine light where the review guides lack clarity.

Barron’s DAT: Dental Admissions Test (Rank: #14)

OVERALL RATING: ★★★★

A comprehensive review book that is filled with errors and was obviously not given as much attention as their other test prep books. You’ll find it helpful as an overview of main ideas for each topic on the DAT much like a quick reference guide, but be wary of the errors that can possibly mislead and confuse you.
